Makeup is my happy place. It can change my look, attitude and day in an instant. It’s both a creative outlet and stress reliever for me. It makes me feel glamorous, bold and confident. I love watching tutorials, trying the latest trends and finding new products.

Finding a good foundation can be life-changing. It’s definitely the product I would choose if I were stranded on a desert island. My favorite brand is CoverGirl’s AquaSmooth solid compact foundation. It’s smooth, creamy and acts as both foundation and concealer. I use a brush to apply a thin layer to my entire face, and then add a second layer to certain areas as needed.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetI then use a dark brown Pixi brow powder to fill in the sparse areas of my brows. This powder is perfect for creating a bold, even and natural looking brow. I use a small, angled brush to fill my brows in, and then I brush the hair up and over with an old mascara wand. It works great as a brow brush if you’re on a budget!

Mascara is another everyday essential. I use CoverGirl’s Full Lash Bloom mascara in black. The wand shapes my lashes perfectly, and it adds some serious volume. I place the wand near the lash line, wiggle it back and forth, and then finish the stroke for the most voluminous look. Mascara is like coffee for me. I don’t look awake without it.

A good tube of lipstick can transform a look from bleak to chic. I’m obsessed with Mary Kay’s Coral Bliss lipstick right now. It’s smooth, shiny and super bright. And it’s perfect for both casual and formal occasions. I like using Burt’s Bees Coconut & Pear lip balm to moisturize my lips before I apply any lipstick. It makes my lips look smoother and it makes the color really pop.

Looking blurry eyed, hair all over the place, staring at myself in the mirror questioning why I’m up is usually how I spend my mornings. I always debate with myself if makeup is worth it. As many of you may understand that you have to sacrifice sleep in order for a makeup routine. Which is quite the commitment!

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetMakeup has always been this mystery product. Once in a while I would have the occasional makeover, but for the most part I wouldn’t touch it. After I accepted the challenge of using it near the end of high school, I eventually picked up a couple tricks. For most days I usually do a winged cat eye, a coat of mascara, and a touch of foundation. For this particular shoot I decided to go the whole nine yards and apply everything I knew how, which isn’t much.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetI start with my Revlon Coverstay foundation, applying it with a flat brush. Then I started to paint my “canvas” by filling in my eyebrows. I prefer using NYX cosmetics eyebrow cake powder rather than a pencil, because it provides softer lines. I first use the wax provided in the kit to brush hairs into place. It also acts as an adhesive for the powder for a long-lasting stay.

For the on fleek lines I want to eventually achieve, I do the unconventional act of using a business card. I place the card above my brow to create a straight line boundary, than take the brush provided in the kit and draw against the card. Repeating the same step I move the card at an angle to achieve an arch. I continue to fill in my eyebrows to the shape I want. After this, I take a spool brush and brush out any hard lines. The final step involves a concealer a little lighter than my skin tone to further define my brows, I consider this “cleaning” up. I outline the outer edge of the brow with the concealer for correcting any powder that may have escaped where I didn’t want.

My signature look is my winged cat eyeliner and I have it down to a science! I have gone through many different brands in various forms over the years. What I have found works best is the waterproof liquid eyeliner with all day stay made by Stila. This can be found at any ULTA or Sephora. It has the sharpest point for a malleable line and looks like a felt tip pen. The black never fades and glides smoothly over the eye. No clumps! For a clean line I suggest pulling the eyelid taunt and holding the pen at an angle. Start with a thick edge in the middle of the eye close to the lash line and with even pressure slowly move out, getting thinner towards the end of the eye. The thinnest part should be the “cat eye” where you flick up your line to a point. I then go back in and fill in any spare parts.

In the end game sometimes a half an hour lack of sleep is worth it when you’re given just the right amount of confidence boost to get through your day.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 preset Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetMakeup is one of the most creative ways one can express themselves; whatever you happen to be feeling that day, you can create a look to match. I like to experiment when it comes to makeup, but I tend to stick to a pretty strict routine on a day-to-day basis.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetEvery look I create needs a solid base, on top of color correcting and a good primer, concealer is a must! Some people are blessed with beautiful skin; others, like myself, need a little help. I don’t use a very heavy concealer though; I prefer my skin to look good, but natural.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetEven if I don’t put on concealer, or foundation, I always fill in my eyebrows! For some reason, I feel odd if I skip this step; it totally changes how I look, and I feel so much more confident once they’re filled in.Processed with VSCOcam with e5 preset

While I enjoy the entire process of putting on my face, one of my favorite parts of the process is contouring and highlighting. When I first stepped foot into this realm I was a little unnerved by how complicated everything looked. However, if done lightly, this trick can make your face look totally different! It gives your face some shape and definition; both of which are good things. It doesn’t have to be hard either! For this look, I simply used the contouring half of my NYX Wonder Stick directly under my cheekbones, around my jawline, along the edges of my nose, and on the bits of my forehead where the sunlight would naturally hit.Processed with VSCOcam with e5 preset

While contouring is exciting, my all-time favorite thing about my day-to-day look is lipstick. On this particular day, I was wearing Revlon’s Matte Balm in the shade Fiery Flamboyante. However, this is a very matte lip product, so I recommend using a generous amount of lip moisturizer about 30 minutes before applying. Your lips will thank you!

Calling all makeup lovers! Here are latest and greatest trends and brands of makeup, colors, and how to apply the makeup you love to your beautiful face. Although none of us really need makeup because we are beautiful without it, we all also know we usually won’t leave the house without at least foundation and mascara on.

We all strive for those compliments about how flawless our skin is. So let’s start with the basics: prepping your face. It is sometimes a struggle to wash your face every single day. I know I don’t always do it, but Clean and Clear Facial Cleanser and the Younique Facial Cleanser are lifesavers! Keep your skin fresh once you get out of the shower by investing in a quality moisturizer. I don’t have super dry or oily skin so I prefer to use the Clinique Moisturizing Gel instead of their lotion.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetI actually don’t know many people who use a face primer, but let me tell you how much it saves you from having to retouch up anything during the day or when you are about to go out at night. The complete coverage Urban Decay face primer has saved me on multiple occasions. When I first asked a beauty consultant about why I should use face primer, and which one to buy, they told me that it’s the same reason as to why you usually use primer on walls before you paint them the color that you want. Primers help your foundation sit on top of your skin instead of soaking into your pores. Over time, this helps your pores from getting clogged from makeup you forget to take off at the end of the day. I have also used Lorac face primer, which works just as well!

I have about four different foundations ranging from a cover stick to BB Cream to thick full coverage liquid foundation. On a casual day, I will warrior paint my face with an IT Cover Stick and blend it in with a beauty blender. On nights where I feel like getting a bit fancier, I’ll use my BB Cream and a foundation brush to blend everything together. My Clinique bronzer is also a lifesaver, in the sense that it helps match my face color to the rest of my semi-tan body, especially during the summer.

Learning how to shape and fill in my eyebrows was probably one of the most challenging aspects that I have had to learn how to do. I am more than thankful an employee at Ulta recommended Anastasia Brow Pompade to me. It is almost like a gel paste but it is waterproof. No more smearing or wearing off those perfectly shaped eyebrows that took you ten minutes to do!Processed with VSCOcam with e5 preset

I don’t know what I did before the Urban Decay Naked Palettes came out. They are definitely a girl’s best friend. If you have blue eyes like me, check out the Naked 3 Palette. If you like a dark smoky eye, look into the newest Naked Smoky palette.

We all go through phases of what mascaras do and don’t work for us before we find one we like. Then it gets discontinued or redesigned. Nothing will ever be like the original kind that we loved though. Fortunately for me, Ulta has done neither of those to their Roller Lash mascara since I have been using it. Ditch that eyelash curler! With this mascara, you won’t need it.

I never know what lipstick or lip gloss I am going to wear for the day until the very last minute. Some days I am in the mood for bright pink or subtle nude, other days I’m totally down for a flashy red or matte burgundy. If for some reason I can’t choose, my go-to lipstick color is Rush by Urban Decay, like in these pictures.

Don’t let your make-up run down your face now, girl! Lock in all that hard work by spraying on some Urban Decay All Night Long setting spray! Now show off all your hard work, go take a gorgeous selfie!

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetMy e.l.f. professional brow comb and brush helps me with not only my brows, but my lashes and my hair. The brush is a great sculptor when you want a softer look for your brows. I use an eyebrow pencil and this brush helps me create an even look.

I don’t use the comb for my brows but for those of you like me that use multiple layers of mascara, the comb easily removes clumps. Since I brush my hair back from the side, my small “baby” hairs are very curly and to tame them I use the comb along with a pomade. The uses I get out of this brush are definitely worth the dollar I spent on it!

My mother calls me ‘Droopy’ because my eyes  curve down near the corners. So to keep myself from looking so sleepy all the time I use Maybelline New York master precise black eyeliner. I draw from the middle of my eyelid and create a wing as I get closer to the corner. It’s not caffeine or constant nap breaks that make it look like I’m awake: it’s my eyeliner!

Nude lipsticks are fun and I love the classic look to them but I tried something new with the Clinique chubby stick lip color balm in Richer Raisin. It packs a punch of color and I don’t even need a liner to make it look sophisticated. My lips dry out easily but the balm moisturizes your lips so you can walk around without carrying three to four chapsticks with you. I chose this color rather than a lighter one because it met that fine line of being subtle yet drawing attention to my lips. My advice to those looking for a new lip color is to go bold or go nude! Kisses!

I love makeup. I love playing around with different looks and techniques, trying out new products and being able to express myself simply by getting ready. Although it’s extremely important to be comfortable without it, I think makeup can be incredibly empowering. Despite makeup technically being the opposite of what’s considered “natural,” I feel the most like myself when I’m happy with the look I have created.

I usually wear a full face of makeup on a day to day basis. As time consuming as it can be, it’s my little portion of the day to focus on myself. I get to dedicate time to do something I love, that will, in turn, make me feel amazing and confident all day long.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetBefore doing my makeup, I always wash and moisturize my face. Not only is this step essential for healthy skin, but it will help your makeup apply much more smoothly. I start out with my Covergirl Outlast 3 in 1 Foundation, which I apply all over my face with a Real Techniques stippling brush. This foundation is amazing for being a drugstore product, and is a primer, concealer and foundation all in one. Talk about a money/time saver!

Depending on how late I’m running, I will do some highlighting with concealer. I’m definitely no Kim K, but I find dotting a lighter concealer in a triangle pattern on my under-eye circles really helps in brightening up that area, making me look less like a zombie when I wander in to my early morning classes. Sometimes I also like to lightly highlight the center of my chin and forehead,  the tip of my nose and smile lines.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 preset“Eat, breathe, bronze” is basically my motto. I find that being pale doesn’t really suit me and feel much more comfortable if I have a nice glowy tan. Since it’s winter at the moment and I can’t even remember the last time I saw the sun, I rely on lots and LOTS of bronzer. I use my Hoola bronzer by Benefit on the majority of my face but mainly to contour my cheekbones, the circumference of my face, the sides of my nose and then blend it down onto my neck. I find that this brings a lot more warmth to my face as well as giving it more dimension. If contouring intimidates you, try starting out with a powder bronzer and lightly dust it on your cheekbones.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 presetAfter applying my NYX blush on the apples of my cheeks, I go to town on my brows. I have very straight and patchy brows so I like to give them a lot of TLC. I use the Anastasia Brow Wiz to fill them in and I find that it makes a world of difference.

Then it’s time to focus on the eyes. My number one tip is to use eyelid primer, especially if you have oily eyelids. I honestly can’t even bother to do eye-makeup if I don’t have this product because all of my hard work will slide off of my face. No bueno. I use the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer and it is a LIFE CHANGER. It doesn’t dry up your eyelids but it locks your eyeshadow and eyeliner in place all day long. I usually apply it before I do my brows so it can set before I get started on my eyeshadow.

Processed with VSCOcam with e5 preset For eyeshadow I can’t get enough of Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Barely Branded. It is definitely an essential in my collection and it’s a drugstore product. It’s so incredibly pigmented and long lasting, and it honestly looks bomb paired with any color shadow. Lately I have been using the Lorac Pro palette eyeshadow, in the shades Mauve and Sable on the crease of my eyelid and then blend “Espresso” out on my bottom lash line.Processed with VSCOcam with e5 preset

Next is one of the most important steps in my makeup routine. Winged eyeliner. I honestly feel naked without it. Ever since I really got into makeup I have winged out my eyeliner and can’t imagine ever growing tired of it. I’ll be an 80 year-old woman and you can be certain that along with fabulous silver locks, i will be sporting my wings. Lastly I finish my look off with lots and lots of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, and ColourPop Cosmetics Lippie Stix in the shade Lumiere on my lips.
