On April 23rd during Missoula Fashion Week, Trendsetters at the U held our very first event, a fashion show featuring the styles from local Missoula boutiques. As a very new University of Montana student group, putting on our first ever event was far from a seamless process, but we pulled through in the end and even the rain couldn’t stop us from strutting our stuff down The Oval.

If you missed the fashion show, or simply want to relive this glorious day, here is a recap of the show and what our models were wearing.

A look behind the scenes: The Trendsetters met bright and early to rehearse the show and then camped out in a room in the UC to do hair and makeup. The extremely talented Ka’aumoana Ahina Jr. was there waiting for us to help make us pretty. His hair and makeup skills were seriously unreal, and he got all thirteen of us fashion show ready in a snap.

For a deeper look behind the scenes check out Trendsetter Corri Smith’s post on The Odyssey about the experience here.

They say April showers bring May flowers. But as far as the Trendsetters were concerned, we would have traded a hefty amount of May flowers for some sunshine that day. Rain or shine, the show must go on! We persevered through the inconvenient weather, making sure to provide audience members with towels to wipe their seats off and umbrellas for each model to keep their hair, makeup and outfits intact.

Luckily the rain didn’t stop our biggest supporters from being there and seeing their smiling faces start to fill the seats meant more to us than they will ever know. Once our sound system, audience, emcee, and models were ready to go, it was showtime!

Despite the rain, our limited budget and issues acquiring the equipment and the venue, our first fashion show was a complete success! We all had so much fun and  learned so much through the process of planning this event. The support we received from the community was amazing and we are so thankful to everyone who made this event possible.

Make sure to like us on Facebook: Trendsetters at the U and follow us on Instagram @trendsettersattheu to keep up with our posts and to make sure you never miss a Trendsetters fashion show again!

A special thanks to all of the boutiques we worked with, to Ka’aumoana Ahina Jr,  Isaac La’a, Aline Dufflocq Williams, and Ashley Caitlin Photography.
