Name: Thea Levinson

Major/Minor Degree: Marketing with a certificate in Digital Marketing and a minor in Media Arts

Hometown: Delta Junction, Alaska

How would you describe your personal style?

Half super-practical-Alaska-girl, half minimalistic. I have recently started on a mission to convert my wardrobe to consisting of only 5 colors.

Who are your style inspirations?

My only real style inspiration have been Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games) and Macklemore. I also have recently been drawing inspiration from the styles I noticed during my semester in England.

What is your favorite season to dress for?

Probably winter. Layers are an essential part of who I am. I always dress for a sudden change in weather no matter the season!

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

Jackets!

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

I spent my entire summer watching and being inspired by Michelle and Aline’s vlogs. That lead me to put more thought into what I wanted my own wardrobe to look like and what clothes I felt happy wearing.

Where can we typically find you?

In the business building, at home with my two best friends/roommates, or dancing the night away downtown.

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to successfully run my own air taxi business in Alaska.

What are a few of your favorite things?

Campfires, my friends, Alaska, my kitty, tea, fishing, the mountains, my mom’s rhubarb cake and traveling.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is versatile, comfortable, and unique. My outfits have to be versatile to accommodate all of the different activities I have scheduled every day. I might have to look professional for advising and then take a dance class an hour later. My clothes have to have multiple functions and typically consist of at least a couple of layers. Though I love being stylish and trendy, I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I don’t want to wear anything that isn’t made of soft fabrics in a comfortable and flattering fit. I used to be more into tighter clothes, but lately looser styles are a must for me. I didn’t know how to best describe this, but my personal style is also sorta of unique. What I mean by that is that I like for each of my outfits to have something a little bit different, a little bit edgy about them. I’m always drawn to pieces that everyone isn’t wearing yet. I love pieces with unique details on them. I’m a sucker for jumpsuits, weird pants, patterns, and cute dresses.

Who are your style inspirations?

The two fashion bloggers that I follow on Instagram are Aspyn Ovard (@aspynovard and aspynovard.com) and Caitlin Coving (@cmcoving and southerncurlsandpearls.com). I love Aspyn’s quirky style and unique pieces. Her look is always really fun and simple. Caitlin has more of a classic Southern style that is to die for. She always looks so put together while also creating some really trendy styles. A celebrity whose style I love has always been Blake Lively. Everything she is photographed in looks so different and flattering. Not to mention how many times I’ve tried and failed to recreate her gorgeous beach waves.

What is your favorite season to dress for?

Easy…fall! As much as I love spring and summer, there’s just so much more you can do with your outfit in the fall. I love wearing booties, layers, and comfy sweaters and sweater dresses! It is the comfiest season of all and the colors are awesome too! I can’t wait for the fun fall photoshoots to come.

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

If you’ve read any of the blog posts I’ve done since I’ve joined Trendsetters, you’ll know that my number one wardrobe staple is my American Eagle jean jacket that I’ve had since the beginning of high school. Embarrassingly enough, I realized that I’ve worn it in almost every one of my Trendsetters photoshoots. But what can I say, it looks good with everything!

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

I wanted to join Trendsetters ever since I started school here at UM. But because of time restraints and whatnot I couldn’t until spring semester last year… and I’m so glad I did! I’m disappointed that I waited this long to join and missed out on it for my first few years of school. I wanted to join because I had been wanting to get into blogging and I was so tempted by the beautiful photos that the Trendsetters always posted. Plus, it’s always good to meet new people with a similar interest!

Where can we typically find you?

This semester is a little crazy, so you really can’t find me in one spot for too long. But basically I’m either working as a student advisor or going to class in the Gallagher business building, taking dance class or rehearsing in the Performing Arts and Radio Television (PARTV) building, working at Olive + Iron, or rehearsing at the Missoula Community Theatre!

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to own my own little successful clothing store! I’ve always wanted to be a small business owner, and working at Olive + Iron has made me want to stay in the world of clothing boutiques.

What are a few of your favorite things?

Right now my favorite things are my Hunter boots, my little backpack and my many jumpsuits. I just got my short matte black Hunter boots recently, after drooling over them for two years. It was perfect timing because as I write this it is pouring outside! You’ll be hard pressed to find me in ANY other shoe this fall (and winter?). Secondly, my little backpack! I purposely didn’t specify which one because I have three that I’m pretty wild about. I started wearing mini backpacks as purses a year or so ago and I may never go back. My current one is light pink from Target and can be seen in our back to school post! I’m trying to stick to “fashion related” favorite things, so my last is my jumpsuits! I have three or four jumpsuits that I absolutely love to wear. They’re so easy and comfortable. Jumpsuits are probably my favorite piece of clothing to wear. Like the black one I’m wearing in this post, from Gap!

Name: Nick Ritchie
Major/Minor Degree: Theatre Arts
Hometown: Covina, CA

How would you describe your personal style?

I love me some pineapples! On an average day, you’ll see me wearing jeans and a pineapple or floral button-up shirt. It’s very chic, but so easy and comfy that anyone can pull it off.

Who are your style inspirations?

I love people who have an easily identifiable style. You see their outfit and you can say, oh that’s so them! Locally, I love Nancy Greger’s style so much! She can literally pull off anything, #icon!

What is your favorite season to dress for?

Spring & Summer! I’m from California, so this cold weather thing is really difficult to understand. Am I supposed to wear 4 layers or just pretend like I’m not cold? The world may never know.

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

My plethora of pineapple shirts. And some pants and khakis of course, for variety.

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

All of my friends with great style were already a part of the club, so I figured why not give it a try? And now, I feel like I’ve developed the vocabulary to build my ideal wardrobe.

Where can we typically find you?
Hanging at PARTV like the rest of your stylish, but overworked theater majors. ✌🏻😘

What is your dream job?

I hope to be able to combine social justice with theater and bring hope to communities that are lacking in it.

What are a few of your favorite things?

I love all forms of art. I love listening to music, especially that of Beyoncé & Mariah Carey (they’re trendsetters!)

How would you describe your personal style?

Describing my personal style is always a challenge for me, because my style is consistently evolving. However, recently I feel like I’ve really settled into my style. I mainly try to focus on having fun, and being creative and interesting with what I wear these days, rather than placing sole importance on whether something is flattering or cute (as obnoxious as that sounds!) I would probably describe my style as a fusion between classic, clean, and modern, with a funky, vintage, “rough around the edges” twist. If J.Crew and Urban Outfitters/a super hipster thrift store had a baby, that baby would be my style.

Who are your style inspirations?

I’m a huge YouTube/blogger nerd, so I mainly get my inspiration from fashionistas of the internet. I am constantly scrolling through Instagram, double tapping, and saving looks that inspire me. Some of my biggest style inspirations of the moment are Lucy Williams, Tess Christine, Emma Hill, Alex Centomo, Chelsea Lankford of Truelane, Levi from TLNique, and Anna Newton of The Anna Edit. All of these ladies absolutely smash the style game. Seriously, go check them out on Instagram because you will not be sorry. I love how they balance classic and trendy pieces, and just have that effortlessly chic look that I’m forever trying to achieve.

Recently I’ve also become obsessed with the concept of dressing like a French girl. They are just so COOL, guys. I love how French women never look over the top. They have such a subtle, undone, laid back, cool girl look that I probably will never perfect, but it definitely makes me proud to have a q in my last name.

Also the Scandinavian magic that is the fashions of the Norwegian drama SKAM absolutely slay my life.

What is your favorite season to dress for?

Fall, 100%. I honestly tried to think of a more original answer for a second, but there is no point. For layering purposes, winter is too cold, summer is too hot, and fall hues are just highly superior to spring ones.

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

Denim, denim and more denim! I used to be the biggest “anti-pants” girl in the world and you would rarely find me in jeans. Now I cannot get enough. I also could not live without chunky knits, collared shirts, pointed toed booties, and a solid collection of outerwear. The majority of my wardrobe is jackets and coats, no lie.

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

Fun fact: I was actually the first real member of Trendsetters at the U! The club was first formed in the fall of my Freshman year at the University of Montana, and when I was approached by Bailey Chauner and Turk Helal during WelcomeFeast on The Oval (trying to get a free hot dog) I was instantly sold. I’ve always loved fashion, and the fact that UM had a student group in which I could express that passion was so amazing to me. I’ve been on board ever since, and can honestly say it has been the best part of my college experience hands down!

Where can we typically find you?

You can find me in the real world: dashing to classes or my internship at the business school, cozied up in bed working on my Instagram feed, taking photos at Olive + Iron, or on my laptop working away at one of Missoula’s many aesthetically pleasing coffee shops.

You can find me in the online world: @michelledufflocq on Instagram, Michelle and Aline on YouTube and my personal blog: Michelle ma Belle.

What is your dream job?

I would absolutely love to work in social media/content/digital marketing for a fashion company or publication in New York City, while still having an online presence and my own personal brand as a YouTuber/blogger. Honestly after binge-watching The Bold Type in the span of two days, I would kill for any of those girls’ jobs. *Insert Stanley Tucci sassily saying “you know a million girls would kill for that job” here*

What are a few of your favorite things?

Breakfast food, Harry Potter, traveling the world, Christmastime, making music, cute coffee shops and the written word.

Summer 2017

Stars and Stripes

The Fourth of July is right around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited to rock our red, white and blue! Here are three casual outfits perfect for spending this Independence Day in style.

Megan

The Fourth of July is honestly one of my favorite holidays, mostly because of the magic that I feel is inherent in fireworks and sparklers. Some of my favorite memories are of going to Flathead Lake for their fireworks display, cuddling up in a blanket and watching the glittering explosions rain down on me from my boat. That, to me, is quintessentially summer and I love nothing more than the feeling of excitement and glee that accompanies those moments.

I brought some of that whimsy into this look with my star choker, which I bought recently from American Eagle. Honestly, I didn’t even buy it with this shoot in mind so the fact that this opportunity came up basically was fate. Fourth of July magic at work, people.

For my outfit, I tried to emulate the good ol’ American flag with my red and white striped long-sleeve which I got from the sale section of Forever 21. Let me tell you, that gigantic and messy sale section actually can have some amazing finds. Speaking of amazing finds, I paired my flag-top with these vintage shorts from Betty’s Divine! They are honestly my favorite find ever and I wear them everyday. Plus, they aren’t just made-to-look vintage, they are actually-came-from-the-past vintage! Amazing! And of course, I had to finish the look of with a favorite of mine and of America’s: my original Chucks from Nordstrom Rack.

Aline

July 4th really snuck up on me this year. I swear just a second ago it was May, I had just gotten done with finals and those flowers that April showers famously bring around were popping up everywhere. Then I blinked; and the wildflowers on the mountains had shriveled up due to the hot Montana sun and I suddenly had to go to my closet and find my best and brightest red, white and blue.

The 4th of July is definitely iconic. It’s a time where everything feels like it could be out of a summertime Coca Cola commercial and people escape the bustling city and find sanctuary at their lake houses and cabins. I don’t have a lake house. I don’t have a cabin. But I do have some clothes fit for a Coca Cola commercial so basically, I’m killing it.

For my outfit for this independence day I tried to create a classic and quirky look. My red and blue button-down from Urban Outfitters is perfect for the July heat since made from crazy light weight fabric and my light wash American Eagle shorts are comfortable and a light enough shade of blue to almost qualify as the “white” in the American color scheme.

I chose to thrown some Converse on my feet since they are classic and a shoe I never regret wearing. And lastly I accessorized with a star studded blue choker from Zara and a navy scrunchy from H&M to jazz up the look and give some extra American flag flair. And there you have it, an outfit perfectly patriotic and fit for any 4th of July affair! Happy Birthday, America. I like living in you.

Michelle

Whether you’re spending this Fourth of July barbecuing with your family, hanging out at home or enjoying some time on the water, it’s always fun to dress for the occasion. The Fourth of July has quickly become one of my favorite holidays. Family time, delicious food and sweet summer sunshine all accompanied by pops of red, white and blue, make my heart happy to put it quite simply.

For my outfit this year I’m wearing this adorable blue and white striped button up from the Who What Wear collection at Target. I’ve been looking for a piece like this for ages, and couldn’t believe it when I placed this gem in my red plastic shopping cart a few weeks back. I paired it with some light wash distressed denim shorts from Forever 21 and my white Converse sneakers, for that cool and casual Americana vibe.

As for the red in my red, white and blue, I tied a red bandana from Madewell in my hair, and applied both red lipstick and nail polish for extra pops of color. Happy Fourth, everyone! Have fun, be safe, and wear something you feel amazing in.
