Fall 2017

10 Back to School Outfit Ideas 2017

It’s that time of year again, fashionistas and fashionistos! We’re going back to school and had to commemorate that with a back to school style post. Here are not one, not two, but TEN different college outfit ideas to carry you through your first weeks back to the books.

Every school year I try to switch up my wardrobe piece by piece and this year was no different. Since the springtime last year I have decided to embrace my feminine self and only buy lighter colored clothes like pinks, light blues, nudes, mauve, and floral. I’ve fought it for a long time, I never wanted to only have a light colored wardrobe because honestly I was scared of people thinking I was “too girly” but this year I’ve decided to own it and not care if someone thinks I dress too much like a girl because you know what? I am a girl and I’m darn proud of it.

First day of school is always the best way to set the tone for the semester so this year I decided to go “girly casual”. For my top I am wearing a Lush blouse from Nordstrom and I brought along with me a 14th and Union light jacket just to keep warm in the brisk early mornings for my 8 amclass. The jacket is super comfy and you don’t get too warm because the sleeves are completely lace and it also gives that more feminine look to it. For my jeans I am wearing a light wash pair of high waisted jeans from American Eagle. To give my outfit a bit of a kick of casual I wore my trusty low top converse.

As the summer winds down, it’s time to get ready for the new school year. It doesn’t take much more than cute outfits to help you stand out and feel confident. Since school can require a lot of activities, it’s always good to stay simple and casual so you can stay flexible!

For my outfit, I kept the colors of white and blue, along with many stylish accessories. Doing this made me feel simple and school-appropriate. The jean I wore is from Korean brand ‘A-land’, and is comfortable enough to wear anywhere. White chiffon from my top let me look light and fresh for the school year’s official beginning. I also color-matched my sandals white in white.

I chose a hair band with a white and blue flower pattern. I love hair band styling because it’s sure to make me look specialized and adorable in simple outfits. The eco-friendly bag from H&M is sizable, allowing it to be full of books, personal pouches, and other snacks! This is another option of a backpack-style bag. For my rings, I tried to put together silver and gold on separate hands. Surely, since my outfit looks simple, the rings and bracelets are its true highlights!

Welcome back everyone! Another summer break has come and gone. I always have mixed feeling about this time of year. On one hand I’m really upset that summer is ending. But, on the other hand I’m excited to get some sort of a routine back. Lucky for us we still get a few more weeks of summer weather before we all have to start layering like crazy to stay warm.

For my back to school look I went with cute but comfy. My white high waisted skinny jeans are from Hollister. I love Hollister jeans because they are always crazy comfortable and stretch for the perfect fit. Plus they have a ton of sales so it’s easy to pick up a pair for 50% off. What college student doesn’t like to save money.

Speaking of saving money. I highly recommend checking out all the thrift shops here in town. The end of summer had people going through their closets and donating everything they don’t want anymore. Meaning you can get some seriously cute clothes for almost nothing.  I got the tank top for this look at Goodwill for a dollar!

To pull this look together I added very simple accessories. Just a belt, a cute necklace, stud earrings, and some flip-flops. The goal here is to wear something that I can put on in a hurry if I’m running late but look like I still put effort in.

So there you go. That’s my back to school look. Good luck this semester everyone!

Happy first day of school, Grizzlies! Thursday was a little weird for me, not only because I went to one class and won’t have class again until Tuesday, but because it was my last first day of school! And after already completing four years of college, this seems like a long time coming! For seemingly the first time ever, I didn’t do anything embarrassing on the first day! One year I sat in the wrong classroom for probably fifteen minutes before realizing, and another year I showed up to the right classroom 30 minutes early and joined the class before. I’m usually a mess when it comes to the first day of school, but who isn’t?

For my first day outfit, I wanted to start the year off with something unique, stylish, and comfortable. I decided to wear my favorite yellow granny pants from work (Olive + Iron), with a grey razor back striped tank top from Gap, with my gold Jack Rogers and fun accessories. This tank top was actually from Gap’s workout section, so it is the most comfortable soft fabric. I picked up this necklace in Asheville, North Carolina on vacation this summer and it’s quickly become my go to statement piece. It’s made of yarn and goes with my whole chic grandma look that I’m going for. I like to try to put more effort in on the first day of school to encourage me to do the same for classes the rest of the semester. We’ll see how long I keep that up!

Summer is a time to recharge, relax and revamp your style to your heart’s content. This Summer I decided that I wanted to chop off all my hair, grow my confidence and stop wearing the clothes that I thought I should be wearing and start wearing the clothes I wanted to wear. I started putting more emphasis on looking “interesting” instead of “pretty” and felt an incredible sense of liberation and freedom with the pieces I was now shopping for and putting together. Don’t get me wrong I’m still the same gal who loves Shrek, Bachelor in Paradise and gets unreasonably upset when my phone smudges my contour, I’ve just a found a way to be more creative with my clothes. All of this is a big reason why I was so excited to go back to school. “HELLO, UM! I HAVE RETURNED TO YOU TEN TIMES COOLER THEN WHEN I LEFT!”

Now that I’m back and better than ever (I’m so humble wow) I have a killer outfit to share with all you readers of Trendsetters at the U. For this outfit I went ahead and did a big ol’ throwback to the 90’s. I am obsessed with the loose-fitting maxi-dress trend that hit the summer by storm this year and couldn’t resist purchasing one of my very own at Nordstrom a couple months ago. To make this outfit even more comfortable and even more 90’s I threw this basic white tee from H&M underneath and voilá! You basically have the easiest outfit ever created! I threw on my Seychelles sandals for some Scandinavian flare and my Warby Parker specks just cuz glasses are fun and that’s the completed look!

So there you have it, kiddies! You all better have a fantastic first week back at school, learn lots and lots and get pumped for a year full of possibility!

Welcome back home. Yes, Home. I said home because I have been here at UMT for a year and I feel University of Montana is just like my home. People here so nice and kind. For me, the University of Montana is my second home that I will never ever forget. I went home on Summer Break and it was wonderful. Also, I was so happy that could have the chance to spent time with family there. Sadly, I have leave them to came back to the States. However, on my first day when I arrived here in Missoula, I felt so welcomed by the people here. I am glad to be back here.

I didn’t go shopping for back to school this semester because I arrived here 2 days before class start. I was really tired at that time, but UMT and the people here give me lots of energy to be ready for this semester. I was overwhelming because I need to do all things together in 3 days before class to start. I didn’t get enough sleep yet but I’ve try to manage my time and do my best for my fashion style for campus life.

This semester I want to be cute and look more girly than before. I chose a pink notebook to made my semester more bright and wonderful alongside my white outfit. I hope that this semester will be fine, and that I can always stay stylish and in good spirits in any situation that I will face.  For my outfits, I got both my long-sleeve and shorts from H&M and my sandals are from Rue21. Well, I am so happy to be here. Happy back to school, and good luck for this semester everyone!

For me, the best thing about the first day of school is putting together my back-to-school outfit. The worst thing, however, is finding the energy to get out of bed in the morning and put on said outfit. That’s why I chose this look. It’s cute, it’s simple, and it makes me feel like a badass while also feeling like I could take a nap. Seriously, these vintage Lee jeans from the Betty’s Divine vintage section feel like pajama pants, except 100% more stylish. They are currently my favorite find because you can dress them up or down, but no matter what you feel comfy. I mean, I love my skinny jeans as much as the next girl, but high-wasted mom jeans are my current comfort go-to.

My top is from Forever 21 and I think it’s the perfect tee for back-to-school. It’s put together with the black trim around the neckline and sleeves, but it still has all the ease of your favorite t-shirt. And I love this orange color to get me into that pre-fall state of mind, since it’s not exactly sweater weather yet. Tucking it into my pants really gives it an element of style without having to put too much work into your outfit.

I finished this lewk off with these super affordable high-heeled Chelsea boots from Target, my number one stop for cute shoes that fit my baby feet. If you’re looking for on trend shoes that last, honestly Target is a pretty good place. Every pair of shoes I was looking for in the past year I found at Target and I know from experience they last the test of time.

This outfit is super easy to recreate with your favorite tee and mom jeans, just add some makeup (or none at all, however you rock it) and you’ll feel like the stylish, comfy queen you are, no getting up at the crack of dawn required.

The nights are getting cooler, the sun is setting quicker and Summer as we know it is coming to a close (*briefly sings Closing Time to myself*). Though it is a downer that our summer adventures have come to an end, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t embrace the school year ahead! No matter what year in school I am in, I always get excited for “back to school” fashion. I remember in middle school and high school, knowing exactly what I was going to wear on my first day back!

For this look I decided to keep it simple, because like, less is more, ya know? I wanted to go for that classic back to school/girl next door look. I am sporting a striped shirt and a very cute, black overall dress, both from H&M (shocker right?!) For shoes, all I am wearing are my classic black converse for that more down to earth feel, and also because they are so comfortable to walk around campus in! If you know me, comfort is what I’m all about and I feel like this simple outfit is comfy yet stylish to rock on the semester ahead. So no matter what this school year throws at you, may you rock it like a champ and be fashionable while you’re at it!

Senior year.  Simultaneously the most nerve wracking and exciting time of a college student’s life.  Wasn’t it just a little while ago that we were all Freshman trying to meander our way around this giant campus ?? Well, whether we’re ready for it or not, senior year is upon us, and I can’t think of a more perfect time to break out some hella cute back to school attire, since it might be one of our last chances to do so! (Except jokes on me cuz yo gurl changed her major and is gonna be a super senior, but hey, I can still pretend I’m a real senior, right?)

For some reason, the start of the school year has got me thinkin’ all about fall, and I’m chompin’ at the bit to break out the boots, sweaters and scarves! But for now, we still got some toasty weather so I settled for some fall colors and suede instead.  For this look, I jumped at the chance to wear a skirt just given to me by one of my sorority sisters! The skirt was originally from Hollister and seemed to pair perfectly with my simple crop from H&M!  I decided not to layer over these base pieces because the combo of the buttons on the skirt along with the ties on the top seemed to be enough – nothing annoys me more than an overdone look!  Then I threw on some classic suede booties from Target along with some dainty jewelry and I felt ready to hit the books!

Happy back to school, everybody! I feel like I say this about every time of year, but back to school is definitely up there as far as favorite times of years are concerned. You’re refreshed from summer break, have an excuse to go shopping for new pens and sweaters, and fall is right around the corner. Need I say more?

A nice collared shirt is an absolute staple in my wardrobe. Pair it with some trousers and pumps, you’re all business; switch out the trousers for some denim and the pumps for sneakers or slides, and you’ve got a killer off-duty chic look. This shirt is from Target and I absolutely love how versatile it is. I tucked it into a pair of thrifted high waisted denim shorts, belted with my new favorite belt from Madewell.

I like to keep my style pretty minimal as of late, so I added a dainty Aquarius necklace, threw on my Old Navy criss-cross slides, grabbed my Target backpack and I was out the door. I love how classic this look is while still being extremely comfortable and functional for transitional weather.

I feel like last semester I totally slacked with my style and it definitely affected my mood and confidence, as well as my productivity. Dress well, test well, amirite? Especially with this being my LAST semester of college (like when did this even happen??) I’m setting out the challenge to make this my most stylish semester yet! Oh I really making that bold of a statement on the internet for all to see? Hopefully I can live up to it. Only time will tell. Have a wonderful “first real week back at school”, Grizzlies!

Back to the Books

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetIt’s that time again, kids! Set your alarms and pack up your backpacks because we’re going back to school. As painful as getting back into the swing of things can be, it’s also the perfect time to reinvent yourself as well as your personal style. Read up on what the Trendsetters are wearing as they head back to the books for a brand new semester of higher education.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetAw, back-to-school: that period of time where I’m both excited and anxious about new classes, my impending decline of sleep and the ever-changing Montana weather. But, back to school is in the heart of the best month of fashion of the year. Trends this fall are channeling the edge of the ‘90s with chokers, slip dresses and a plethora of flannels. It’s easy, it’s cool, it’s perfect for back-to-school.

The first couple weeks of the semester are always a bit crazy; trying to ease into a schedule is not easy. With classes that begin at 10 a.m. and that keep me on campus until 6 p.m., I’m wearing outfits that are stylish, but ultimately comfortable. As I begin styling outfits for this transition period from summer to fall, I am sticking to cool tones and short sleeves.

This oversized peplum top from Urban Outfitters is the perfect staple for anyone’s fall wardrobe. It is probably the most comfortable shirt I have in my closet (minus my chunky knit sweaters that have been stowed away until the temperature cools down.) Its laid-back look and olive color scream the ‘90s, but it is tailored enough that you could wear the top from day to night.

Another favorite from my wardrobe are these light-wash Gap jeans. I wear these jeans way too much, but the color goes with everything and they have that perfect worn-in comfort. I have far too many pairs of jeans, but none are as perfect as these.

Although wearing wedges may not seem like I’m aiming for comfort during these first weeks of the semester, I promise that these Toms shoes do everything but hurt my feet. Shoes definitely have the power to dress up or dress down an outfit, so I find myself wearing heeled booties on most days. Also, heels make my legs look longer, which balances out the oversized-nature of my top. They make a perfect pair.

You never know what a new semester will throw at you, but take it with open arms and cute outfits. Here’s to a fantastic new school year!

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetBack to school isn’t all about meeting new people, attending a new school or starting new classes. Start school with new friends and a new style. Here are some style tips that I used all summer and will hopefully transition into fall!

Make a statement with your outfit with one of your pieces of clothing, whether that be your shirt, shoes or even jewelry. I decided to pick my shirt as my statement piece. As shown, my shirt has an open back. Showcase your shirt with a lace bralette that either matches or contrasts your shirt color.

You could possibly pair anything with this kind of shirt: jeans, shorts, a skirt, anything would work. This time I chose shorts.  Jean shorts could really go with anything and almost any color. As you can see, I love maroon.

Don’t doubt a girl and her shoe collection. I have these same Sanuk shoes in three different colors. The black ones will always be my go-to summer flip flops. They are extremely comfortable and fashionable. As a matter of fact, all Sanuk shoes are comfortable.

Wrap up your outfit with the perfect jewelry. Simple yet chic is the easiest way to go sometimes. You don’t have to go too gaudy to make the impression that you want.

Show everyone who you want to be by what you wear. Accept those compliments like you’re Beyoncé! Don’t put your fashion before your school work, though; your degree will get you farther than your fashion.

Call me crazy, but I love back to school season. The cute school supplies, the new fall pieces trickling into your wardrobe and the fact that, with a whole new school year ahead of you, you’ve got a fresh start.

I pride myself on looking put together in class pretty much every day, which can be exhausting but is honestly so worth it. I find that I feel so much more organized and confident to take on the day, if I’m happy with the look I’ve put together.

I absolutely love the whole 90’s trend happening right now. I think it’s playful, yet can still be classy and cool; all my favorite aspects to incorporate into my looks. I decided to go with a denim skirt, because they just scream “back to school” to me. Not to mention, it’s a piece that transitions seamlessly from summer to fall. This light-wash one is from Brandy Melville, and I love how versatile and comfortable it is.

I paired my denim skirt with a blue and white bohemian-style crop top from H&M. I love this piece because it’s another summer-to-fall item. Versatility is essential in any successful wardrobe, and I love how the almost bandana-like pattern translates in both warmer and cooler weather. Not to mention, it’s just cute and adds a pop of interest!

I like to keep my accessories quite minimal so I’m sporting a classic black velvet choker necklace from Urban Outfitters. I’ve just recently jumped on the choker bandwagon, and I’m a huge fan. I think they’re great at making you seem like a trendy cool girl, when really you have no idea what you’re doing with your life, let alone outfit.

I’m finishing my look of with some black criss-cross slide sandals from Old Navy. These sandals have become a staple in my wardrobe this summer, as they are insanely comfortable while appearing stylishly laid back.

It’s September, which means classes are back in session! This time of year is my favorite because it gives me the chance to buy cute notebooks and pencils. The only thing I love more than back-to-school supplies is a good summer-to-fall transition outfit. This transitional season gives me the chance to dress in my favorite fall colors while still keeping cool for the end-of-summer weather.

For this look I decided to break out some darker colors and experiment with my personal style. This t-shirt is the ideal combination of classy and casual and looks just as good with a pair of dark skinny jeans as well as with a denim skirt.

I decided to pair this comfortable top with a black, high-waisted bodycon skirt to keep myself cool in the sun. This skirt looks so perfect with black booties, so I decided this heeled pair would give it just the right amount of “Corri” for it to be my perfect outfit.

I decided to add a brown braided belt to break up the contrast slightly, and the denim top dresses down the look just enough to wear to school while still giving me the option to look sophisticated for any meetings that I might have.

This change in season can be an awesome time to experiment with your own personal style — don’t be afraid to mix things up!

I love the start of a new semester; I feel like I can be a new person every time! If you noticed from my earlier photos, I was sporting a muddy red hair color, but I decided to make a change and go for a bold platinum blonde. I know that the trend is to lighten in the summer and darken in the winter, but I love the way blonde hair looks against my pale skin in the snow; it’s very whimsical to me. I encourage everyone to do something bold that they have wanted to do for a while, even if it goes against the status quo.

On to clothes! Who doesn’t love the feeling of new threads in your new college world!? College is the time to really start playing with style. You get so many influences from other students that are from all over the world, so really step out of your comfort zone and try something new. One thing I love about the University of Montana is the broad range of styles. Although, you will typically see me rocking the whole “comfortable plaid meets denim or cargo” look, there are so many interesting, beautiful and bold styles. Mix it up!

With makeup, I love the natural look with a bold lip. Sometimes I mix it up, but a lot of the time I don’t wear it to my classes due to time. School is school and if you’re new on campus, the want to impress is gonna be there, so one of my fast glam looks is my go-to fall look (that you can totally rock year round.) It is brown, blended shadow with a darker color on the outside blended into the crease with mascara, basic liner, a touch of bronzer and a nude or extra bold lip. Super quick, very simple, and flattering on everyone.

Go out there you guys and show the world the new college you and get to know your style better than ever.

It’s already September and I have no idea where my summer went, but I only want to cry a little about school starting, so it’s okay. Anyways, it’s that time of the year where some people are putting a lot of effort into looking good and some are relying on their sweatpants. My back-to-school look is the most generic of my outfits because I know I won’t wake up in time to actually think about it.

So to start off, I pulled out my favorite (yep, you guessed it) black distressed jeans. I got these from Maurices when I started working there and fell in love with them. They’re just so comfortable and who needs gender norms? You can just never go wrong with them! I own about ten pairs of similar black jeans and people think I wear the same pants all the time, but jokes on them.

To keep this outfit basic and easy, I chose a basic gray tee from H&M. I stocked up on these basic tees when H&M first opened here because, just like black jeans, you can never own too many.

Then, since I love layering, no matter the weather, I threw my favorite denim shirt on. I’m the type of guy that wears flannels, black jeans and black boots in 90 degree weather just because I don’t know how to dress for the summer. But, now it’s close enough to fall that I don’t have to worry about it thankfully.

For my shoes, I threw on my (very worn) black Chelsea boots. I got these boots from target about a year ago and have worn them down so much, but I can’t find a pair anywhere else that fits me. You’d be surprised to find out how many places don’t carry a size 12.5-13 shoe. And to finish off the look, I added my brown wide-brimmed fedora because, let’s be honest, who is going to wake up in time to shower and do their hair for a 9 a.m. class?

Now, everybody go out and kill this year at the U and remember, it’s college, so going to class in sweatpants and a blanket is normal here.

So it’s finally back to school and I couldn’t be happier! It’s also back to attending classes in the latest fashions! My outfit for this post is perfect for those days where you want to look put together, but you want to be comfy and casual at the same time.

My white v-neck is from Apricot Lane and is a staple in every person’s wardrobe since it goes with anything. I tied it off to make it more casual and to accentuate the skirt! My skirt is from Forever 21 and I can already tell I’m going to wear this so much throughout the year! It’s a stretchy denim, so you don’t feel confined and uncomfortable and it’s very easy to throw on and walk out the door, especially if you’re running late! It’s also an amazing transition piece for fall. Lastly, my white high top Converse are from Journeys and I’ve been wearing them all summer! I love wearing Converse because you can throw them on with any outfit and they make your outfit a bit more relaxed.

My backpack is from Target and I’m a little obsessed with the color. Since it’s a neutral metallic, it goes great with all my outfits year-round. I decided to keep my makeup on the natural side and use warm, earthy tones on my eyes, and use a chubby lip gloss balm from NYC to add a little shine and color!

Hope you all have an amazing new school year!

The hustle and bustle of the semester has actually begun!  The heat lingers as a reminder of the last days of summer and there is this abrupt transition from reading destination maps to textbooks. To hold on to this carefree attitude, express your feelings through your back-to-school style. Whether that be show-stopping shoes, beach inspired sunglasses or choker necklaces.

Lately my fashion sense has leaned more on the comfort spectrum. To change it up from my go-to of joggers, short shorts and crop tops I picked a more class appropriate look. My outfit revolves around a versatile jacket from H&M. This jacket acts as a throw-over accessory or as a hooded dress, which I love depending on how daring I’m feeling. I decided to use it as a throw over to my worn-in American Eagle jean shorts and oversized tank top that I tucked in. To complete this look I offset the dark neutrals with ballerina inspired gladiators. This outfit is cozy yet polished enough to impress.

Whatever style you choose to embrace this fall semester, best wishes on your school endeavors. Keep your head held high and be bold in your tasks!

The time is here. Time for early mornings, endless supply of caffeine, and drowning in homework (and, or tears). Going to back to school may be a little stressful but it’s also a great time to show off your new bts wardrobe. For my outfit of choice I decided to keep it pretty simple. I’m wearing a black leather jacket from H&M, a purple crop top (also from H&M) to add a pop of color to my otherwise dark outfit, some adorable heart tights, and my fave black booties.

So, take a deep breath, put on your best shoes, and rock this semester in style – and try not to be late. But if you are, at least be fashionably late!
