Facebook, Instagram, and even Twitter are full of beautiful pictures of beautiful women. Often they’re in bikinis and often they can provoke some less-than-kind views on your own body.

There are a lot of people avoiding being active because they’re afraid of what they look like, being judged, using the equipment. Everyone is being told to work out more and that in itself is enormous pressure. I believe feeling strength and joy when you’re moving and thinking should be the main message in self-care and going after what makes you feel and look good.

For most women being in the weight room isn’t as easy as everyone thinks. They can be a lot of discomfort, nervousness and uneasiness when training with guys, or even other “in better shape” women. For some female exercisers this is a fairly common occurrence: a subtle tap on the shoulder, followed by a dude monitoring you asking if he can help change your position because your knees aren’t exactly in the line with your squat, or that you should try repositioning. On the flip side women sometimes tend to focus on reputation of specializing in “traditional” feminine workouts such as yoga or pilates- neither of which could be a lot of people’s cup of tea.

Kick the Gym’s Butt with These 10 Tips

Next I will list 10 motivation tips I use in my life as a woman to help me stay motivated in the gym:

  1. Take it one day at a time
  2. Surround yourself with positivity
  3. Reward yourself
  4. Believe in yourself
  5. Acknowledge your positive attributes
  6. Visualize accomplishing all of your goals
  7. Be kind to yourself mentally and physically
  8. Don’t compare yourself to others
  9. Workout to be healthy–not skinny
  10. Always remember why you started before thinking about quitting

Don’t be Gymtimidated

Working out isn’t all about bikini body prepping or having the skinniest physique or being the prettiest. I don’t want anyone to feel like just because they’re doing crunches, they can’t have wine or a cheat day every once in awhile. Try to prioritize performance over appearance when working out. It takes practice but remember that really, truly, no one is looking at you.
Ladies it’s time to turn on the music, let your ponytail fly high, and squash those sweat-sessions. I say we are all strong, intelligent women, and there’s simply no reason to avoid your favorite fitness class because you don’t look like the Athleta mannequins.

A few fitness quotes:
There will be obstacles there will be doubters there will be mistakes but with hard work there no limits.”

“Nothing is impossible the word itself says, ‘I’m possible.'”

“Never say never because limits like fears are often an illusion.
