Fall 2017

Meet the Trendsetters of the University of Montana

The University of Montana is known for being nestled amongst incredible landscape, providing students with a top notch education, allowing them to thrive while having access to outdoor recreational activities. But a lesser-known fact about U of M is that the students who strut the campus have some serious style. Missoula is a funky college town, with a diverse range of styles and people.

Here at Trendsetters at the U, we pride ourselves in cultivating a space for all styles, all majors and all people at the University of Montana to express themselves and connect with other fashionistas on campus. So without further ado, meet the faces behind our fashionable team!

Dina

Name: Dina Merani
Year: Sophomore
Major/Minor: Tourism  and Hospitality Management
Hometown: Papua, Indonesia (Papua is an Island) In my hometown, there are so many beaches, hills, mountains and rivers.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say, I dress more like a teenager. I often wear skirts.

Who are your style inspirations?

I only have one. She is a famous American blogger. You guys may know her. She is the cutest! Her name is Nichole Ciotti. I love her style. She has always inspired me with her style.

What is your favorite season to dress for?

Because I love to wear shorts and skirts, my favorite season to dress for is SUMMER!

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

I have some shorts, skirts, lots of tee shirts and some dresses for parties.

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

I joined Trendsetters at the U because I had already fallen in love with fashion and I want to learn more about fashion in this community as well.

Where can we typically find you?

I spend most of my time around campus, and I usually spend a lot of time in the Library, so you can find me there.

What is your dream job?

I hope that I can own a hotel in my hometown, which is near the beach.

What are a few of your favorite things?

I love the color blue, dogs and traveling. I love to dance, but I am not a professional dancer.

Marlena

Name: Marlena Jones
Year: Sophomore
Major/Minor: Double major in International Business and Management
Hometown: Missoula, Montana but I spend a lot of summers in Munich, Germany where my mom is from. I grew up bilingual with English and German and I love to travel.

How would you describe your personal style?

My double major keeps me busy so I am usually on the lookout for a comfy but classic look for my everyday style.

Who are your style inspirations?

I seek a lot of inspiration for my style from many different people as I am always open to try something new.

What is your favorite season to dress for?

My favorite season to dress for is Fall. The warm colors mixed with the cool breeze offer perfect weather for cozy sweaters and hot chocolate. My favorite Fall staples are chunky scarves (that could be blankets), knitted boot socks, and dark lipstick. I am always on the hunt for unique pieces that really add something to an outfit.

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

Recently, I have been loving gold hoop earrings, a beautiful ripped denim jacket that is embroidered with pale roses, and striped tees.

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

I wanted to join Trendsetters at the U because I have always been very fashion-oriented and here, in Montana, there are not a lot of opportunities surrounding the fashion industry. It is really nice to have a group of like-minded people all together taking photos and doing what they love.

Where can we typically find you?

Besides being with the Trendsetters, you can typically find me working hard (or hardly working) in The Commons or getting an acai bowl from The Green Source.

What is your dream job?

My dream career would definitely be starting my own business. I am a very motivated person and love the idea of entrepreneurship. Business is such a versatile field and I am so passionate about creating a business that will grow the world in some way. I would love to implement aspects of fashion and lifestyle into my business, although I am not entirely sure what I would like to do quite yet.

What are a few of your favorite things?

I am also very passionate about dance and gymnastics which I have done for most of my life. I have a love for fashion and lifestyle (which is probably pretty clear considering I am writing a blog post for Trendsetters at the U) and I love meeting new people!

Greer

Name: Greer Brewer
Year: Sophomore
Major/Minor: Elementary Education
Hometown: Tacoma, Washington

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say my style is kinda all over the place. Some days I’d like to dress like a chic Parisian while other days I like to dress girly and fun!

Who are your style inspirations?

Honestly, I don’t have a certain person that inspires my style. I just really get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and random fashion blogs!

What is your favorite season to dress for?

I love the end of summer and the start of fall. Some days I get to layer with sweaters and jackets but then maybe the next day I can wear a dress! It’s nice to ease into the constant cold that I know is just around the corner.

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

Denim, denim and more denim. But really, my staples are: my high waisted jeans, jean jacket and jean skirt. They can be paired with so many other pieces and work for every season! Also I love my belts and a good pair of black booties.

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

I really wanted to join because I have always loved fashion and putting outfits together. I get a lot of inspiration from a lot of fashion blogs so I think its really cool to be a part of something that might inspire other people.

Where can we typically find you?

If you’re looking for me I’m probably roaming the aisles of Target or enjoying some ice cream at Sweet Peaks or Big Dipper.

What is your dream job?

My best friend and I have a dream of opening up a coffee shop and restaurant where she handles the business part and I get to the menu and the design!

What are a few of your favorite things?

I’m a huge ice cream lover, I really enjoy scrolling through Pinterest and I have a weakness for cute babies!
