Meet the Trendsetters of the University of Montana

The University of Montana is known for being nestled amongst incredible landscape, providing students with a top notch education, allowing them to thrive while having access to outdoor recreational activities. But a lesser-known fact about U of M is that the students who strut the campus have some serious style. Missoula is a funky college town, with a diverse range of styles and people.

Here at Trendsetters at the U, we pride ourselves in cultivating a space for all styles, all majors and all people at the University of Montana to express themselves and connect with other fashionistas on campus. So without further ado, meet the faces behind our fashionable team!

Adina

Name: Adina Rutherford

Year: Freshman

Major/Minor: History with Education

Hometown: Missoula, MT

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say my personal style changes between sundresses, skirts and ‘mom’ jeans with crop tops.

Who are your style inspirations?

My fashion icon is Zooey Deschanel! I love her very feminine look and I think it gives off optimistic vibes!

What is your favorite season to dress for?

My favorite season to dress up for is Summer because I love dresses and skirts which are more appropriate in summertime!

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

Some of my wardrobe stables are summer dresses, belts, anything button up and my jean jackets.

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

I saw Aline and Michelle’s dedication to making sure everyone could show off their style, and I really love that Trendsetters is an outlet for people’s fashion creativity.

Where can we typically find you?

You can typically find me by any theatre, in a swimming pool or in my best friend Emma’s dorm.

What is your dream job?

I have wanted to be a History Teacher since I was 8 years old so I am finally on my way after 10 years and getting very excited!

What are a few of your favorite things?

I like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. I love 75 degree weather, the smell of pine trees, and the color gold. I enjoy historical movies while eating popcorn and spending time with my friends.

Garrett

Name: Garrett Gredell
Year: Senior
Major/Minor: Media Arts
Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas

How would you describe your personal style?

I’d like to think that my style is a either nice clothing I see on Pinterest and clothing from music videos of the mid 2,000’s (pop-punk golden days). Just depends on the day

Who are your style inspirations?

When it comes to style inspiration I probably can’t name one source of inspiration but every time I go to Zumiez I can’t help but wish I had more money to spend there.

What is your favorite season to dress for?

Fall is definitely my favorite season to dress for! It involves layers, darker colors, and you can move more freely when you aren’t wearing a super thick down coat for these Montana winters.

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

Some of my personal wardrobe staples are JEANS. You can never have enough jeans! Dark, light, loose, tight, gotta have em. Also jackets. But surprisingly I don’t have any jean jackets

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

Honestly, I joined Trendsetters because I know a few awesome people who are a part of it AND it’s a good way for me to learn how to wear more than just 5 colors. Thanks in advance to all my fellow Trendsetters.

Where can we typically find you?

You can typically find me in McGill hall trying to finish up some late night media arts project or standing in line at just chillin’ trying to decide on a smoothie. Usually I’ll choose a peanut butter one though (cause pb is life).

What is your dream job?

Dream job? I’m still trying to figure out how to do laundry.. BUT if I had to pick one, I’d go with voice actor… or logo designer… or graphic design… or video editing for films… ok so can we pick more than one?

What are a few of your favorite things?

Oh here we go! A few of my favorite things include but are not limited to: playing guitar, playing drums, riding motorcycles, doodling, learning new skills, and exercising! I consider myself a jack of all trades. I’m always looking for something new to learn and I’m relatively decent at most things but a master of none.

Jillian

Name: Jillian Keith
Year: Senior
Major/Minor: Marketing + Certificate in Digital Marketing
Hometown: I was originally born in Ocean Side, California but grew up here in Missoula, Montana and I can’t imagine having grown up any place else.

How would you describe your personal style?

Through the years my style has changed. I had never really found my own style until I started college, before that I always looked to other people and tried to dress like them but since I’ve began school I’ve found my own voice in my style. I enjoy dressing preppy from time to time but I mostly dress more girly/feminine and I have been told I dress quite classy.

Who are your style inspirations?

My main style inspiration is Lauren Conrad. I’ve loved her style since she was on The Hills, she is so classy and has an amazing sense of style, how can you not love LC?

What is your favorite season to dress for?

My favorite season to dress for is spring, because it’s not too hot and not too cold, and you can still wear skirts and dresses!

What are some of your wardrobe staples?

My wardrobe staples are body suits and dresses. I absolutely LOVE body suits- they go with everything and can go under anything. Dresses are also one of my favorites because with a dress, it’s a complete outfit in just one piece. They are simple and easy to wear when you’re feeling lazy but you still always seem to look put together when you wear one.

What made you want to join Trendsetters at the U?

I joined Trendsetters at the U when I was a freshman so I’ve been involved for 4 years now and originally what had made me want to join was the career path I had wanted to take- I had previously planned to go into public relations in the fashion industry. But my career path wasn’t the only reason I wanted to join; I also loved fashion, duh. As a freshman, you come to the University hoping to find people you can be friends with for a long time and when I saw a flier about Trendsetters, I thought that this club could be the place where I found those people, and I did! Trendsetters has special place in my heart because it’s helped me through my last 4 years here and I will cherish the memories that I have made for my entire life.

Where can we typically find you?

You can typically find me in my bed, either studying or watching Friends, How I met your Mother, the Office, or Gossip Girl. I have seriously watched each of these series 4 times now and am officially starting my 10th time watching Gossip Girl riiiiiight now. I also enjoy working out, so you can also find me at Fuel Fitness quite frequently.

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to be a wedding planner and to own my own wedding planning business. I’m obsessed with weddings, not only have I been planning my own since I was 16 but I love planning and looking at other people’s weddings. I’m a super organized person who always comes prepared so I definitely think wedding planning is the perfect fit for me.

P.S. The Wedding Planner is hands down the best wedding planning movie of all time.

What are a few of your favorite things?

A few of my favorite things are my 2 cats and my 2 puppies, anything pink, decorative pineapples, wasabi peas, and reading the Knot magazine.
