Spring 2017

Groundbreaking Florals

Here at Trendsetters at the U, we couldn’t be more excited about spring. The semester is coming to an end and we are all in need of some serious sunshine. As we transition into warmer weather, it’s fun to switch things up in your wardrobe as well. Here are 5 different outfit ideas to inspire you to shake up your style this spring.

Sometimes, living in Montana, spring weather can be a bit on the chilly side, even in mid April! But that didn’t stop me from breaking out some of my favorite warm weather wardrobe pieces for our latest Trendsetters shoot! I couldn’t resist starting my look off with my favorite pair of light wash overalls (which I got for a steal at H&M!) and I knew I wanted to incorporate some floral patterning into my look as well! The crop top I ended up choosing felt like the perfect spring piece for a subtle pop of color and flowers.

I am guilty of being a total Friends enthusiast, so my look as a whole was inspired by non other than Rachel Green circa 1995.  Keeping this in mind, I had to go with a pair of classic, white “Chuck Taylor’s” for my shoes.  The flannel tied around my waist seemed to add a little bit of edginess to the look and also tied in (literally) with the colors of the crop top perfectly. It also never hurts to have another layer handy when you’re dealing with the bipolar weather of MT!  Last but not least, my light nude lip color had me feelin pretty in pink and definitely ready for some sunshine.

“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”…

“It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine…”

Flowers are blooming, birds are singing around us and the weather become little warmer. Yes, it is spring. Sometimes it comes with rain and the weather can be unpredictable, especially in Missoula, MT. This is also my first experience of the spring season. It is a beautiful season.  I hear birds singing, the grass is starting to come out and flowers are blooming after the winter season. It is incredibly beautiful and amazing for me. Waking up in the morning with the birds’ sounds makes my heart happy and ready for the day. I am so blessed that I could enjoy 4 season in this beautiful small city. Missoula is a gorgeous place for every season.

Unlike in winter, in the springtime I can wear many different kinds of outfits. I even wear a sandals even though it’s still a little cold. I usually wear everything from mini dresses and short skirts to ripped jeans and denim shorts with tights under them. I really love that kind of style.

For this spring photoshoot, I decided to wear a red mini dress that I got last summer from H&M. I added my black boots from H&M to make the look a little cuter. I love shopping at H&M. It’s a really good store to do shopping. You can probably tell that I love H&M because many of my outfits are from there.

In the springtime I also love to carry a small bag that easy to wear. I think this little bag really helps complete the outfit. This bag is made out of a coconut shell with the flower motifs, making it perfect for spring. It’s from my own country Indonesia.

Spring for me has been incredibly awesome. I wish you all a great spring, and don’t forget to make your own outfits as cute as the season itself. I love you all! Enjoy the flowers and birds singing.

Spring in Montana is practically nonexistent. However, there is nothing better than those rare sunny spring days which grace us with their presence every now and again. For this look I wanted to combine the femininity of spring florals with cool and casual elements.

I’m wearing a floral blouse from American Eagle, which I got off the sale rack a while ago for around $12 (score!) I love how the cutout on the chest makes it a little trendy while still being a pretty classic piece.

I decided to go for this pair of light wash high waisted jeans from H&M for this look, because the brighter blue just screams spring to me. I also love how they’re not skin tight around the ankle so they bring a laid back vibe to the outfit.

Lastly I’m finishing the look off with a pair of gold hoops from Luca + Grae and my white Converse sneakers. I wear my Converse all the time, but especially gravitate towards them in the spring and summer. I love how white sneakers go with everything while simultaneously up the “cool girl” factor in any look.

Spring in Montana means rain, snow, SUN, clouds, and everything in between! The weather forecast will say rain, so you’ll wear your rain boots and sweater, but then it will be sunny! With such unpredictable conditions, how do you dress on trend? I have two solutions to this problem: transitional pieces and lots of layers. A more springy or summery piece can be paired with the same black boots that I’ve been wearing all winter, and I can layer up with a light jacket if it’s still cool out.

For this shoot, I’m wearing my absolute favorite piece of clothing I’ve purchased this year. Not surprising, since I’m wearing this striped jumpsuit in every recent picture on my Instagram. I can’t get enough of the jumper and romper trend lately, and my two favorites are this one and a solid black one, both from Gap. For spring, it’s nice to have most of my leg covered in this light linen fabric in case it is a little chilly. I can wear it with or without my favorite jean jacket depending on the weather, and it pairs nicely with my black Blowfish booties or sandals when it gets nicer. I actually wore this same jumper to a gala at a dance conference a few weeks ago with black pumps too! So easy to transition for different occasions. I added the red Guess cross body purse today for a pop of color.

Spring is finally here! As you all probably know from past posts of mine, I am not a fan of the cold. Spring means the sun is showing it’s face, and pretty much all of the snow has melted. You can finally wear those skirts and sun dresses that have been at the very back of your closet all winter.

For this shoot I picked one of my favorite sundresses from The Buckle. It is a royal blue with a geometric design at the top. Fun fact about this dress: I wore it at my high school graduation. To make the look a bit more casual I paired the dress with a denim shirt from Hollister. I tied the bottom just to add a little shape.

For accessories, I grabbed one of my short pendent necklaces. This was a birthday present from one of my old friends a few years back. The shoes are a pair of Not Rated fringe booties from The Buckle. I went with a half up bun so it would keep me cool as well as add a bit of girly style. Lastly my sunglasses are Vogue and are perfect for the sunny days of spring.
