It’s that time again, kids! Set your alarms and pack up your backpacks because we’re going back to school. As painful as getting back into the swing of things can be, it’s also the perfect time to reinvent yourself as well as your personal style. Read up on what the Trendsetters are wearing as they head back to the books for a brand new semester of higher education.
Aw, back-to-school: that period of time where I’m both excited and anxious about new classes, my impending decline of sleep and the ever-changing Montana weather. But, back to school is in the heart of the best month of fashion of the year. Trends this fall are channeling the edge of the ‘90s with chokers, slip dresses and a plethora of flannels. It’s easy, it’s cool, it’s perfect for back-to-school.
The first couple weeks of the semester are always a bit crazy; trying to ease into a schedule is not easy. With classes that begin at 10 a.m. and that keep me on campus until 6 p.m., I’m wearing outfits that are stylish, but ultimately comfortable. As I begin styling outfits for this transition period from summer to fall, I am sticking to cool tones and short sleeves.
This oversized peplum top from Urban Outfitters is the perfect staple for anyone’s fall wardrobe. It is probably the most comfortable shirt I have in my closet (minus my chunky knit sweaters that have been stowed away until the temperature cools down.) Its laid-back look and olive color scream the ‘90s, but it is tailored enough that you could wear the top from day to night.
Another favorite from my wardrobe are these light-wash Gap jeans. I wear these jeans way too much, but the color goes with everything and they have that perfect worn-in comfort. I have far too many pairs of jeans, but none are as perfect as these.
Although wearing wedges may not seem like I’m aiming for comfort during these first weeks of the semester, I promise that these Toms shoes do everything but hurt my feet. Shoes definitely have the power to dress up or dress down an outfit, so I find myself wearing heeled booties on most days. Also, heels make my legs look longer, which balances out the oversized-nature of my top. They make a perfect pair.
You never know what a new semester will throw at you, but take it with open arms and cute outfits. Here’s to a fantastic new school year!
Back to school isn’t all about meeting new people, attending a new school or starting new classes. Start school with new friends and a new style. Here are some style tips that I used all summer and will hopefully transition into fall!
Make a statement with your outfit with one of your pieces of clothing, whether that be your shirt, shoes or even jewelry. I decided to pick my shirt as my statement piece. As shown, my shirt has an open back. Showcase your shirt with a lace bralette that either matches or contrasts your shirt color.
You could possibly pair anything with this kind of shirt: jeans, shorts, a skirt, anything would work. This time I chose shorts. Jean shorts could really go with anything and almost any color. As you can see, I love maroon.
Don’t doubt a girl and her shoe collection. I have these same Sanuk shoes in three different colors. The black ones will always be my go-to summer flip flops. They are extremely comfortable and fashionable. As a matter of fact, all Sanuk shoes are comfortable.
Wrap up your outfit with the perfect jewelry. Simple yet chic is the easiest way to go sometimes. You don’t have to go too gaudy to make the impression that you want.
Show everyone who you want to be by what you wear. Accept those compliments like you’re Beyoncé! Don’t put your fashion before your school work, though; your degree will get you farther than your fashion.
Call me crazy, but I love back to school season. The cute school supplies, the new fall pieces trickling into your wardrobe and the fact that, with a whole new school year ahead of you, you’ve got a fresh start.
I pride myself on looking put together in class pretty much every day, which can be exhausting but is honestly so worth it. I find that I feel so much more organized and confident to take on the day, if I’m happy with the look I’ve put together.
I absolutely love the whole 90’s trend happening right now. I think it’s playful, yet can still be classy and cool; all my favorite aspects to incorporate into my looks. I decided to go with a denim skirt, because they just scream “back to school” to me. Not to mention, it’s a piece that transitions seamlessly from summer to fall. This light-wash one is from Brandy Melville, and I love how versatile and comfortable it is.
I paired my denim skirt with a blue and white bohemian-style crop top from H&M. I love this piece because it’s another summer-to-fall item. Versatility is essential in any successful wardrobe, and I love how the almost bandana-like pattern translates in both warmer and cooler weather. Not to mention, it’s just cute and adds a pop of interest!
I like to keep my accessories quite minimal so I’m sporting a classic black velvet choker necklace from Urban Outfitters. I’ve just recently jumped on the choker bandwagon, and I’m a huge fan. I think they’re great at making you seem like a trendy cool girl, when really you have no idea what you’re doing with your life, let alone outfit.
I’m finishing my look of with some black criss-cross slide sandals from Old Navy. These sandals have become a staple in my wardrobe this summer, as they are insanely comfortable while appearing stylishly laid back.
It’s September, which means classes are back in session! This time of year is my favorite because it gives me the chance to buy cute notebooks and pencils. The only thing I love more than back-to-school supplies is a good summer-to-fall transition outfit. This transitional season gives me the chance to dress in my favorite fall colors while still keeping cool for the end-of-summer weather.
For this look I decided to break out some darker colors and experiment with my personal style. This t-shirt is the ideal combination of classy and casual and looks just as good with a pair of dark skinny jeans as well as with a denim skirt.
I decided to pair this comfortable top with a black, high-waisted bodycon skirt to keep myself cool in the sun. This skirt looks so perfect with black booties, so I decided this heeled pair would give it just the right amount of “Corri” for it to be my perfect outfit.
I decided to add a brown braided belt to break up the contrast slightly, and the denim top dresses down the look just enough to wear to school while still giving me the option to look sophisticated for any meetings that I might have.
This change in season can be an awesome time to experiment with your own personal style — don’t be afraid to mix things up!
I love the start of a new semester; I feel like I can be a new person every time! If you noticed from my earlier photos, I was sporting a muddy red hair color, but I decided to make a change and go for a bold platinum blonde. I know that the trend is to lighten in the summer and darken in the winter, but I love the way blonde hair looks against my pale skin in the snow; it’s very whimsical to me. I encourage everyone to do something bold that they have wanted to do for a while, even if it goes against the status quo.
On to clothes! Who doesn’t love the feeling of new threads in your new college world!? College is the time to really start playing with style. You get so many influences from other students that are from all over the world, so really step out of your comfort zone and try something new. One thing I love about the University of Montana is the broad range of styles. Although, you will typically see me rocking the whole “comfortable plaid meets denim or cargo” look, there are so many interesting, beautiful and bold styles. Mix it up!
With makeup, I love the natural look with a bold lip. Sometimes I mix it up, but a lot of the time I don’t wear it to my classes due to time. School is school and if you’re new on campus, the want to impress is gonna be there, so one of my fast glam looks is my go-to fall look (that you can totally rock year round.) It is brown, blended shadow with a darker color on the outside blended into the crease with mascara, basic liner, a touch of bronzer and a nude or extra bold lip. Super quick, very simple, and flattering on everyone.
Go out there you guys and show the world the new college you and get to know your style better than ever.
It’s already September and I have no idea where my summer went, but I only want to cry a little about school starting, so it’s okay. Anyways, it’s that time of the year where some people are putting a lot of effort into looking good and some are relying on their sweatpants. My back-to-school look is the most generic of my outfits because I know I won’t wake up in time to actually think about it.
So to start off, I pulled out my favorite (yep, you guessed it) black distressed jeans. I got these from Maurices when I started working there and fell in love with them. They’re just so comfortable and who needs gender norms? You can just never go wrong with them! I own about ten pairs of similar black jeans and people think I wear the same pants all the time, but jokes on them.
To keep this outfit basic and easy, I chose a basic gray tee from H&M. I stocked up on these basic tees when H&M first opened here because, just like black jeans, you can never own too many.
Then, since I love layering, no matter the weather, I threw my favorite denim shirt on. I’m the type of guy that wears flannels, black jeans and black boots in 90 degree weather just because I don’t know how to dress for the summer. But, now it’s close enough to fall that I don’t have to worry about it thankfully.
For my shoes, I threw on my (very worn) black Chelsea boots. I got these boots from target about a year ago and have worn them down so much, but I can’t find a pair anywhere else that fits me. You’d be surprised to find out how many places don’t carry a size 12.5-13 shoe. And to finish off the look, I added my brown wide-brimmed fedora because, let’s be honest, who is going to wake up in time to shower and do their hair for a 9 a.m. class?
Now, everybody go out and kill this year at the U and remember, it’s college, so going to class in sweatpants and a blanket is normal here.
So it’s finally back to school and I couldn’t be happier! It’s also back to attending classes in the latest fashions! My outfit for this post is perfect for those days where you want to look put together, but you want to be comfy and casual at the same time.
My white v-neck is from Apricot Lane and is a staple in every person’s wardrobe since it goes with anything. I tied it off to make it more casual and to accentuate the skirt! My skirt is from Forever 21 and I can already tell I’m going to wear this so much throughout the year! It’s a stretchy denim, so you don’t feel confined and uncomfortable and it’s very easy to throw on and walk out the door, especially if you’re running late! It’s also an amazing transition piece for fall. Lastly, my white high top Converse are from Journeys and I’ve been wearing them all summer! I love wearing Converse because you can throw them on with any outfit and they make your outfit a bit more relaxed.
My backpack is from Target and I’m a little obsessed with the color. Since it’s a neutral metallic, it goes great with all my outfits year-round. I decided to keep my makeup on the natural side and use warm, earthy tones on my eyes, and use a chubby lip gloss balm from NYC to add a little shine and color!
Hope you all have an amazing new school year!
The hustle and bustle of the semester has actually begun! The heat lingers as a reminder of the last days of summer and there is this abrupt transition from reading destination maps to textbooks. To hold on to this carefree attitude, express your feelings through your back-to-school style. Whether that be show-stopping shoes, beach inspired sunglasses or choker necklaces.
Lately my fashion sense has leaned more on the comfort spectrum. To change it up from my go-to of joggers, short shorts and crop tops I picked a more class appropriate look. My outfit revolves around a versatile jacket from H&M. This jacket acts as a throw-over accessory or as a hooded dress, which I love depending on how daring I’m feeling. I decided to use it as a throw over to my worn-in American Eagle jean shorts and oversized tank top that I tucked in. To complete this look I offset the dark neutrals with ballerina inspired gladiators. This outfit is cozy yet polished enough to impress.
Whatever style you choose to embrace this fall semester, best wishes on your school endeavors. Keep your head held high and be bold in your tasks!
The time is here. Time for early mornings, endless supply of caffeine, and drowning in homework (and, or tears). Going to back to school may be a little stressful but it’s also a great time to show off your new bts wardrobe. For my outfit of choice I decided to keep it pretty simple. I’m wearing a black leather jacket from H&M, a purple crop top (also from H&M) to add a pop of color to my otherwise dark outfit, some adorable heart tights, and my fave black booties.
So, take a deep breath, put on your best shoes, and rock this semester in style – and try not to be late. But if you are, at least be fashionably late!
We wish you all a wonderful Fall semester. Let’s make it the best one yet!
